Climate Protection and Sustainability

As an institution of the State Parliament of Swabia, whose fundamental duties include balancing ecological concerns with economic, cultural and social goals, the Swabian Conference and Education Centre at Irsee has its own particular responsibility to actively promote environmentally friendly activity while implementing ecologically sustainable measures. Events such as conventions, seminars and conferences have an impact on our environment. Participants such as speakers need to travel to and from the event, and in the process consume water, energy and other resources during their stay. We therefore see it as our duty to balance and coordinate economic concerns and ecological principles together with social issues within our area of responsibility. I. Our hotel and restaurant – think global, buy local

On 17 June 2008, the Swabian Conference and Education Centre at the Irsee Monastery was awarded the Bavarian Environmental Seal for the Hotel and Restaurant Industry for the first time by the Bavarian State Minister of the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection, and Economy, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology.

II. Saving and converting energy

Under the German Economic Package II programme, the Swabian Education Centre at Irsee received the financial means to save energy by thermally insulating the listed roof area.

III. Outdoor facilities – history and variety

The United Nations has named 22 May the International Day of Biological Diversity. To highlight the importance of our environment as the basis for life and human well-being, 2010 has been declared the International Year of Biodiversity and 2011 the International Year of Forests.
